JACKSON PARK HOSPITAL OPENS OBSTETRIC UNIT

On July 5, 2012, Jackson Park Hospital opened its newly renovated Obstetric Unit. The LDR project, which encompassed 4,204 square feet, involved the creation of two labor, delivery and recovery suites (LDR’s), two triage rooms, a family waiting area, and a new nurse’s station. In addition, the renovation project included remodeling 11,436 square feet of existing rooms to create a more desirable postpartum environment for mothers, newborns and families to bond as well as promote the practice of family centered care.
The newly created LDR’s have state of the art equipment to provide the safest birthing experience possible. Upon delivering, the mother is kept under close observation in the LDR for a period of time necessary for her well-being prior to being transferred to one of the newly appointed postpartum suites where she and her newborn baby are cared for until discharge.
The new triage rooms are utilized for ante-partum testing of obstetrical patients, to evaluate and/or rule out active labor and determine whether the patient will be admitted to the Obstetric Unit or discharged for continued outpatient management.
The $4.6 million renovation was made possible by a grant from the Illinois Department of Public Health. This grant is part of the Hospital Capital Investment Program, approved by the General Assembly in 2009, to improve the quality of health care to communities.
