OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

At Jackson Park Hospital’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the focus of our Occupational Therapy Program is to improve patients’ ability to perform their activities of daily living and to function in the working environment. Upon referral from a doctor, our experienced therapist will perform a one-on-one assessment and evaluation to develop an individualized program of care tailored to each patient’s needs.  The needs of the patient are addressed through education, training and treatment and often involve the patient’s family as integral members of the team.

The treatment plan encompasses various functional therapeutic activities to: improve the patient’s Activities of Daily Living, like bathing, grooming and dressing; to increase the patient’s perception and cognitive abilities; and to improve the patient’s strength, range of motion, fine motor coordination, and endurance.  The objective of these activities is for the patient to regain, develop and build the skills that are essential for their independent functioning, health and well being.  We recognize and understand the importance of maximizing each patient’s functional independence in order to improve their quality of life.

Occupational Therapy is recommended for a wide range of conditions which include:
