As of April 2007, 180 students had registered and enrolled at the school based health center at the Schools of the South Shore campus. For many students, peace of mind is provided by knowing they have the ability to see the doctor during their lunch period.
The typical patient is between 16 and 18 years of age and diagnoses have ranged from sexually transmitted disease to dog bite to arrhythmia. The school based health center at the Schools of the South Shore campus is located within the epicenter for new HIV infections on the south side, and special emphasis has been given to HIV testing. The center provides a wonderful opportunity for HIV prevention counseling and education. The staff of the school based health center at the Schools of the South Shore campus looks forward to applying lessons learned and better serving the students of the high schools.
The school based health center at the Schools of the South Shore campus is funded both by a grant from the State of Illinois and from The Foundation for Jackson Park Hospital.
