ANTICIPATED OPENING DATE - 2012...
Building for Our Mothers and Babies….Our soon to be open new Labor and Delivery unit

When Dr. William Dorsey assumed the leadership of Jackson Park Hospital, his mission was and continues to be to increase the services and ensure the future viability of Jackson Park Hospital for the community it serves. A major part of this was the recently opened Medical Office Building on the corner of 75th Street and Cornell. This building houses our acclaimed Family Medicine Residency Program, primary care medical offices, and specialty suites. However, our community continually is in need of more state of the art medical facilities. Toward that goal, Jackson Park Hospital is about to open its new Labor and Delivery unit.

Our Board Certified obstetricians will now have state of the art facilities which will provide for an attractive, soothing, and safe area for our mothers to deliver healthier babies. Our community suffers from a higher than average percentage of at risk mothers who receive little or no prenatal care. Having a state of the art facility to deliver healthy babies is essential.

3,721 square feet will be utilized to create two (2) labor delivery and recovery suites (LDRs), two (2) triage rooms and a family waiting area. The new LDRs on the second floor will be located immediately adjacent to our surgical suite allowing for a rapid and efficient transition for patients in labor who may need cesarean sections.

An existing unused elevator that is contiguous with the proposed LDR suites and the existing postpartum unit on the third floor will be made operational. The existing elevator shaft will be brought up to current standards and a new state of the art, custom built elevator car will be installed. This will allow for patients to transition efficiently and seamlessly between the two (2) units.

Patients will be recovered in the LDR rooms. The newly delivered mother will remain under close observation in this area for stabilization prior to being transferred to the postpartum unit where mother and baby will be cared for through discharge.

While this new unit will be a great enhancement for our community mothers, we anticipate that women from across the city and Northwest Indiana will now choose Jackson Park Hospital for the delivery and care of their babies.

During the course of this project, Jackson Park Hospital will also renovate a long closed unit, 3 South, which will now be utilized for medical and surgical patients and alleviate crowding in our present medical/surgical unit and will provide for more individual attention to each of our patients and increase nursing care for all of our patients.
