Jackson Park Hospital has served the community on Chicago’s southeast side since 1913. It has offered a residency program since 1979 approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-a Family Medicine Residency Program, affiliated with the Chicago Medical School.

The Family Medicine Center provides comprehensive services to some 20,000 patients annually. The patient population is comprised of eighty percent African Americans, twelve percent Caucasians and eight percent Hispanic. Predominant diagnostic categories include respiratory diseases, heart diseases, arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, and nutritional deficiencies. Well care includes family planning, maternity, infant care, health maintenance, and senior care. Fifteen resident positions are provided in our three-year family medicine program. The curriculum is designed to provide the resident with the skills and knowledge needed to assess, diagnose, manage, and use the appropriate consultation when needed for any condition that may be encountered. Our Family Medicine Residency Program prepares a graduate to serve as a personal primary care physician, able to coordinate the total health care of the family. Program Director Lakshmi Dodda, M.D. was chosen to receive the Chicago Medical School Faculty Award for Outstanding Teaching in the Family Medicine Clerkship. She was nominated by her students. We knew it all along. Congratulations, Dr. Dodda.

First Annual Alumni Meeting to be Held Friday June 20, 2008 Bangalore Murthy, M.D., has announced that in conjunction with the Family Medicine Center Resident Graduation, there will be a meeting of alumni of the FMC Residency program. Come congratulate new graduates and catch up with old friends and colleagues. The event will be from 6:00 PM until 11:00 PM and will include dinner and dancing.
