Our philosophy is patient centered. We accept each patient’s individuality and embrace his/her strengths as well as opportunities. Without judgment, the team addresses the patient’s most pressing need and works to resolve the issue. We endeavor to meet the needs of each patient holistically. Frequently, life circumstances contribute to struggles with poverty, addiction, depression, anxiety and self-esteem. The Care Center opens the door to improved health, refined awareness, self-confidence, the ability to make healthy choices and empowerment.

The HIV/AIDS Community Advisory Board (CAB) of Jackson Park Hospital is an immediate resource whetting the South Shore community. The Board is a diverse group of people committed to educating the community about HIV/ AIDS and its impact; increasing the range and scope of HIV Prevention and Care services at Jackson Park Hospital; reducing the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS and giving voice to individuals living with HIV/AIDS.

We provide screening, evaluation, education, counseling, palliative and supportive services and clinical management to the patients living with HIV/AIDS by utilizing the skills and expertise of our primary care physicians, specialists, clinical psychiatrists, treatment-adherence counselors, social workers, nutritionists and pharmacists, all under one roof.

We implement the current recommendations for vaccinations, reducing exposure to environmental pathogens, and prophylaxis against common opportunistic infections. We ensure quality of care and proper medical treatment of patients admitted to the hospital with HIV or related illnesses. This includes diagnosis and treatment of women with HIV during pregnancy, and development of strategies to reduce the risk of perinatal transmission.

One of our main target populations is HIV-positive patients with a history of substance use and mental disorders and we are implementing strategies like on-site substance abuse and pain management, treatment of underlying psychiatric disorders and utilization of simplified, once-daily antiretroviral regimens with reduced pill burden, to improve their adherence and quality of life.

The HIV Clinic, with the support of Chicago Women’s Aids Project’, also offers free, confidential and non-invasive (oral) HIV testing from 1pm to 4pm on every other Thursdays.

A free walk-in STD Clinic is now open at the JPH in collaboration with the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), providing on-spot diagnosis, treatment and counseling to the uninsured patients.
